Justin Matthews

I am the owner and head trainer at Southern Magnolia Retrievers. I have always had a passion for duck hunting and dogs since childhood. I trained my first duck hunting labrador retriever in 2006.

I joined the United States Coast Guard Reserves in 2007 and served until 2015. I served as a Police Officer from 2009 until 2020. During these years my passion stayed with duck hunting and training retrievers.

Over the years I spent countless hours reading books and watching dog training videos and seminars. I worked side by side other professional trainers on my off days furthering my skills in dog training.

In 2017 I started venturing my knowledge from hunting dogs into AKC Competitive trials and hunt test.

I have successfully trained and hunt test titled dogs from the Junior, Senior, Master, and Master National level.

I am a husband to Morgan and father to Brantley and Payton. Our family have all dedicated our lives to building this business into what it has become today.

Morgan Matthews

I have always had a passion for hunting and dogs since childhood. I grew up in the outdoors hunting with my father.

I started my professional career as a Registered Dental Hygienist in 2014. I gained knowledge in Dental Care as well as scheduling, communications, and dealing with the public’s needs.

In 2019 I took a break from Hygiene to help Justin build Southern Magnolia Retrievers. I worked side by side Justin in the kennels and in the field building our business.

As the business grew and we were able to hire more employees I went back into the Hygiene world. I currently work with scheduling and billing for Southern Magnolia Retrievers as well as work full time as a Dental Hygienist.

I am a wife to Justin and mother to Brantley and Payton. I spend countless hours a week ensuring our business runs efficiently.
